Natural Opponents formed from a chance meeting at an open mic in 2016, when Josemar Locandro and Thomas Roberto Aponte discovered their shared passion for songwriting — both performing songs with “Enemy” in the title. That serendipitous moment sparked a creative partnership that would evolve through several projects, including B.i.O and Clay Pillars, before ultimately taking shape as Natural Opponents in 2023.
Fronted by Josemar Locandro (Vocals) with his raw, emotive delivery, and Thomas Roberto Aponte (Lead guitar and Backing Vocals) with his melodic, cinematic touch, the duo expanded their lineup in 2024 after Josemar’s performances at The Bitter End and FirstLive. There, they connected with Benjamin Michael Weise (Bass, Guitar, and Backing Vocals), John Marc Degaard (Drums), completing a lineup that blends the grit of classic rock with the heart of alternative emo.
Their debut single, “Digging My Own Grave” (Dec 2024), introduced their unapologetically honest sound — followed by the nostalgic summer anthem “Wasted Tears :’)” and the heartfelt ballad “3rd Time’s The Charm.”
Natural Opponents have since lit up stages across New York, including The Bitter End, Knitting Factory, Naked Angels NYC, and Bronx Summer Jam 2025. True to their name, the band thrives on contrast — raw yet melodic, classic yet modern — embracing a full DIY spirit across their music, videos, and visual art.
Natural Opponents fuse classic rock grit with modern alternative energy, creating raw and emotional anthems built on an infectious melody.
